It’s that time of the quarter where you can activate the bonus categories for Q3 for the Chase Freedom card. This quarter the bonus is for gas stations and Kohl’s.  You can activate the bonus categories here anytime between now and 9/14/15 to be eligible for 5x bonus points.  The purchases must occur between 7/1/15 and 9/30/15 to be eligible.  The bonus catgories only give 5x points up to $1,500 in spend for a maximum of 7,500 points.  After that it changes to 1 point per dollar....

Current Amex Offers

Posted by on 1:09 pm in American Express | 0 comments

I last wrote about Amex offers in December so I’m a little behind but I’m going to try to post about Amex offers more often.  As a reminder, Amex offers can be added to eligible cards by syncing your card through twitter, Facebook, or they can be directly selected and added from the American Express website under your account.  All offers may not be available through all channels.  Here are some of the ones I found useful. Samsclub.com – Spend $20 or more, get $20 back – Expires 9/30/15 Verizon FiOS – Spend $75...

40% Bonus on purchased Hyatt points

Posted by on 1:05 pm in Hyatt, Promotions | 0 comments

Loyalty programs run purchase points promotions with some frequency so it’s no surprise that there is a new one for Hyatt.  I received an email from Hyatt letting me now that right now, through May 31, 215, they is offering 40% more points for purchases of at least 10,000 points or more.  Generally, purchasing points are not worth it except to top off an account.  This is no different.  Purchasing 10,000 points will set you back $240 but will give you 14,000 points.  This comes out to approximately 1.7 cents per point. Under...

Free 1,000 AAdvantage miles

Posted by on 6:59 pm in American Airlines, Promotions | 0 comments

I know a lot of people have posted about this but I first saw this at The Flight Deal. American Airlines is running a contest where you have a chance to win 2 first class round trip tickets anywhere they fly.  You have to watch 6 videos and answer a question at the end of each video.  Honestly, the questions are easy enough that you don’t have to actually listen to the video if you know anything about American Airlines and frequent flyer programs in general.  The videos are short, between 1 and 2 minutes in length...

Update to AA/US Merger

Posted by on 8:27 pm in American Airlines, FFP update, US Airways | 0 comments

Two days ago I posted that as part of the merger, status was updating across both programs.  As of today, the mileage balances have combined.  You should also see your current progress towards elite status. There may still be some kinks to be worked out but overall the transition should be smooth.  According to the email that American sent out today, it seems that the loyalty program combination is now complete.  Hopefully there won’t be any major hiccups with the new integrate...

AAdvantage and Dividend Miles Merger Underway

Posted by on 8:59 pm in American Airlines, FFP update, US Airways | 0 comments

American Airlines sent an email out on March 24 saying the programs would combine loyalty programs on March 28, 2015.  As of right now, statuses have already started updating.  My US Airways Chairman’s Preferred status has already started to update on AAdvantage as Executive Platinum.  If you have status on one of the airlines you should check to see if it’s updated on the other. Hopefully mileage balances should start combining soon so we can book with the combined miles.  It looks like the merger is going as smoothly and...

SPG Category Changes

Posted by on 12:27 am in Starwood | 0 comments

Every year Starwood makes changes to what hotels are in what categories.  Generally the changes affect a small portion of the hotels and in this case, for 2015, it’s a total of 22% that are changing categories.  This year about 10% of the hotels are moving up and about 12% of hotels are moving down.  The entire list of changes can be viewed here. There really aren’t any big changes if you live in the NY/NJ area which is disappointing since the hotels in this area.  There are 2 hotels in NJ going up from category 4 to 5 and one...

Review: Westin Times Square

Posted by on 10:00 am in Starwood, Trip Reports | 0 comments

After my stay at the Borgata on a recent Friday night, I decided to head to the city and stay at the Westin Times Square.  The Westin here is usually a $200+ hotel or 25,000 points so I try not to stay here too often even though it is very conveniently located. The hotel itself is very nice with an indoor entrance to the Regal theater and across the street from the Port Authority, AMC, and Dave & Busters. Last time I stayed here I had issues with platinum recognition and I complained to the SPG twitter team and made my grievances known...

Review: Borgata Hotel and Casino

Posted by on 10:00 am in Trip Reports | 0 comments

On a recent weekend I went to Atlantic City and decided to stay at the Borgata instead of my usual Caesars/SPG hotels.  I booked a Fiore suite for a night and it was a decent price since I had a free night.  Borgata is a pretty nice casino compared to a lot of the boardwalk ones like Bally s or Tropicana. I got there on Friday night around 10 PM and went t check in.  The receptionist was friendly but it took her a while to check us in. The hallways wee long but looked very nice.  I’m very bad at pictures so I probably won’t do the...

Hyatt “Stay More Play More” Promo

Posted by on 10:00 am in Hyatt, Promotions | 0 comments

Starwood’s 2015 Q1 promo was pretty disappointing but it looks like Hyatt has, for some people, a better one.  Hyatt has a targeted promotion where you can get a certain number of points after making a number of stays.  There seems to be a couple of different offers out there for 1, 2, 20, and 25 stays. Here is one of the available offers: One you put in your Gold Passport number, click on “Learn More” to find your offer.  You will then have to click “Register” to actually register for the promo.  Seeing your...
