I wanted to fly AA’s fairly new Boeing 777-300ER which flies from DFW to HKG. I also wanted to fly out of EWR instead of JFK or LGA because it is much closer for me. Luckily I was able to get a very good flight from EWR to DFW to HKG. The flight was at 6:05 AM so it was s lightly annoying but since it was from EWR, it wasn’t a deal breaker.
When I got to the airport I had to check in at the desk because I couldn’t do it online or at the kiosk. This was probably the worst part of the trip. it must have taken about 40 minutes to check in because of the long line and slow agents. There were quite a few people there who were running late for their flight so the agents took them ahead of other people who had been there. I thought it was very badly done and made some people who were on time almost late for their flight.
When I got to the security checkpoint there was not really a pre-check lane but they were letting those with pre-check not take everything off. Because of this I got out of security fairly quickly but did not have time to visit any lounges thanks to the delay at the check in counter.
The flight to DFW from EWR was in an MD-30 and was uninteresting. The drink service was very late but at least the seats were moderately comfortable. I had Main Cabin Extra so I’m not sure how much of it was that. Since it was an early flight I was able to take a quick nap before we landed. Once we landed I had about 2 hours until my next flight so I grabbed some Starbucks and headed to the Admirals Club.
The admirals club was fairly large and there were plenty of open seats although it wasn’t empty. The lounge had self serve coffee machines, edible cookies, a smoke bar, a regular bar, and a children’s area. This lounge was a fairly good one as far as domestic lounges go in terms of space and food. Unfortunately on the way back I wasn’t so lucky.
