I was a little skeptical about my departure time for my flight to Milan because was supposed to leave at 6:35 pm but is historically only 73% on time and it was going to snow. Luckily we got out in time and it was only 5 minutes late. It took about 25 minutes to taxi around until we were ready for takeoff. I don’t have any pictured of the views because I was seated in an aisle seat in the middle section. The plane has economy in a 2-3-2 configuration. Luckily I was booked in economy plus so while pretty bad, it could have been worse. Being in zone 4, I wasn’t able to find an empty overhead compartment near me so I had to go about 10 rows back to put it in.
United advertises their economy plus seats as having more legroom, but I’m not so sure it makes much of a difference. It was still pretty uncomfortable for a long flight. It’s very difficult to stretch your legs if you have a bag under the seat in front of you.
About an hour into the flight they started serving dinner. Eating food in coach is always a scary prospect but this time it wasn’t too bad. I ordered a vegetarian meal about 20 hours ahead of time so I was surprised it worked out. United says you have to do it 24 hours ahead of time.
After dinner I managed to watch 1 movie before falling asleep for a couple hours. The IFE selection was pretty good. They had about 75-100 movies plus some shows. I watched gravity as I’ve been meaning to for a while but never had a chance.
The flight left a little but late but it landed pretty much on time which is pretty much a miracle for United. Since my bag was about 10 rows back, it took a while for me to exit the plane. Overall it was an okay flight. Timing was good, food was edible, and IFE was bearable. The seats though are killer.
