This trip was not originally planned and only came about because of a mistake fare back on November 23, 2013. There were tickets to Europe and some places in Asia for very low prices because they were not charging the fuetl surcharge. I only booked the ticket to Milan because it was the cheapest one but in hindsight i should have picked up a few more.
As far as hotels go, I booked 4 nights at The Westin Palace Milan and one night at the Park Hyatt Milan. I used American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts to book the Westin. it was slightly higher than booking through the SPG site but it came with €85 food and beverage credit, free breakfast every day, a room upgrade, and early check in/late check out. In my view, that made it well worth the price. For the Park Hyatt Milan I booked it using a free night I had available from the Chase Hyatt credit card sign up bonus.
Also, I should mention that I managed to complete this entire trip without touching any physical Euros. I was able to buy everything I wanted with a US credit card with a chip and just tipped at restaurants with dollars. It wasn’t my intention from the outset but just ended up that way. I do recommend, however, that you do get some euros so it will be a lot easier to buy things, especially from stalls.
I’ll try to to post 1 post per day but we’ll see how that goes. As always, the entire picture library will be published in the gallery here.
